The Casco Bay Regional Shellfish Working Group’s driving vision is a healthy intertidal ecosystem that sustains shellfish resources and the jobs that depend on these fisheries.

Mission

The mission of the Working Group is to collaboratively address pressing issues facing the wild-harvest shellfish community and to share expertise and best practices for management, conservation, research, and monitoring across towns and stakeholders in Casco Bay, Maine.

Goal

Our goal is to equip municipalities with the knowledge and experience to manage their wild intertidal shellfish resources in the changing Casco Bay ecosystem, through providing a forum for sharing information, resources, and tools.

"The Working Group has been a great start to bridging the gap between municipal shellfish programs and harvesters. Along with predation and climate change, communication has historically been a limiting factor to resource conservation. This group builds relationships with harvesters, municipalities and state leaders that will lead to positive results for municipal shellfish programs."
